Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would become a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 officially in the works—Gilligan and his team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get swayed by the rampant praise and fan theories about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Does the showrunner See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
