The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
