The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family go about their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
