Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Concerns.

'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the ground early on day two of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left hamstring after the final ball in his spell on Saturday.

The England team stated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and required time off the field to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The concluding match of the tour at the SCG begins on Sunday, 4 January.

England have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was left out of the third Test, then recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, before adding 28 as a batsman among just a trio of England players to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he resumed for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Yet, at the end of that over, he delivered a variation to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test having missed the previous Test.
