Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
