A person who laced sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on recently.

Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.

The accused was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on 28 November.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he ran.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.

"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC explained objects including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were located, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She said the man proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"The police had not arrived by that point," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.

Mrs Prior said the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities again.

She said the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
