Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his future after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented recurring failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period like this with results this poor.”
He stated, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
